Bukit Keluang has some of the best coastal scenery in Malaysia with lovely beaches, a wooden walkway along the cliff edge, sea caves and a 141 meter high hill with a superb view over the South China Sea.
It is located in Terengganu about 6 km south of the town of Kuala Besut which is where travellers catch boats to the Perhentian Islands.
Bukit Keluang is also a location to watch the beautiful sunrise panorama from a height of 85 metres above sea level.
Here, is rich in flora and fauna, does not need any development and should be retained in its present state, which is preferred by climbers.
The peak of Bukit Keluang is now being visited almost every weekend by numerous quarters since it was opened to the public last year 2015.
Activities In Bukit Keluang.
Here, you can do at least three activities which are hiking, snorkeling and fishing.
For hiking, the trail is not too hard for a beginner. But you need to be extra careful as certain spot is so steep. It took us about only 20 minutes include a few minutes rest. The scenery on the hill was breathtaking!
After hiking you may go to the beach and ride banana boat to Pulau Rhu. At Pulau Rhu, can do snorkeling.
You can snorkeling even if you do not know how to swim. And do not worry as there are 2 workers took care of youself when do snorkel. The coral are pretty (but quite dangerous. it is advisable to wear sock to avoid your feet from scratching and bleeding).
You can see many aquatic animals there.
There’re a lot of people fishing at the river that are about to connect with the sea. The place is opposite direction with the beach. The view there also are very nice and the water are so clear!
Our advise for those who are planning to come here are;
1. Please wear a suitable shoes for hiking as it can be very slippery when you want to hike the Bukit Keluang.
2. Bring along a slipper when you walk along the beach or if you want to carry out activities at the beach.
3. Do not forget to bring waterproof camera if you want to snorkel.
My overall experience here are wonderful except for the trash that visitors left everywhere.
How to Get To Bukit Keluang.
If you are driving from the north (Kota Bharu) you will pass Kuala Besut and remain on the coast road. The turn off is shortly after Air Tawar (which is another nice beach).
